new toys, etc

I’m really enjoying my sexy new phone. I’ve got it set up so that certain addresses from within my company get forwarded to my gmail, so i’ve worked around that piece, they’ll just get email responses from an odd outside address. Oh god, i’ve become that guy, who’s too cool for IT.. anyways, i’ve figured out how to send pictures to my flickr account, and more importantly i have discovered the “outbox” in the sprint mobile application. here’s how: i tried to post three pix at once but it said i didn’t have enough memory to send that, so then i tried two pix. still no go. in desperation, i tried one and STILL got “there is not enoug memory on the device” or somesuch. I look, there’s still 47 meg free, i’m using about a third of it, but as i click through i see that sprint mobile is the largest file. it was up to about 6.4 meg, which doesnt seem like much but when you consider that the whole pda’s main storage is about 64 meg… so i looked into the app and found that it saves a local copy of the mail that I send out in a folder called outbox. I deleted the pix i had sent up already and then looked, the size had dropped to 2.4 meg. Sometime about now i tried again and sending a pic worked. Of course in the process i had deleted the solitaire program off my pda, so i had michelle beam it back to me. It’s nice having matching phones, we can beam all kinds of things back and forth such as astrological information we’re saving into a program called delphi. (i wonder how i export that…) Thanks to Amy’s explaining how easy it is (email a midi or mp3 to myself and open the attachment) I now have a great variety of ringtones including things like the waltons (using for family), looney tunes, the linus and lucy theme from Charlie Brown, the imperial theme from star wars (should give that to boss man) Yes, I can give everyone their own ring, and now that I can pick the rings i use more easily the more variety i can put in there. I like being able to know approximately (or exactly) who it is from across the room. So far I haven’t posted any naked picture with my phone. One thing that i have found handy is that I am interacting with some of my favorite web-based services via email. with flickr, i can post emails directly via mail, so i can take a picture of something with the built-in camera, save it, then switch over to the mail program and send that pic to an address which is a weird name composed of two words separated by a number - easy to remember if you’re just out there and want to post something. At last I have a place I can send the “dumps of pics” emails I keep getting from people. hmmmm. I’m taking pictures of my friends and putting them on the contact list so i’ll see their pic when they call. Hey, man, it’s the future, i have a video phone. almost… i wonder if there is a way i can stream video to something? i know i can take video and i should be able to send it somewhere.. guess i need to learn about youtube now.. damn. So this thing is feeding a nerdy thing in me that hasn’t really been fed in a long time. I’m enjoying it right now, being able to do all that internet-on-the-go thing that i have heard so much about. I can now easily become part of that mob of rogue photojournalists using the wireless infrastructure to get the word out. I wonder if there is a macro program i can get for the palm to automate even the part where i send the email.. just grab the latest one, toss it at the IMAP servers at google.. thank you.. maybe i need to write some code..
